# Kindredly > Kindredly is an anonymous penpal app that matches strangers by how they write. You write a letter to nobody in particular. It lands first on the desks of strangers who write the way you do — matched by the rhythm and shape of your writing (how long your sentences run, where you pause, how evenly they run, whether you ask questions, how you end a thought), not by photos, profiles or location. When one of them writes back, you have a penpal. Nobody sees a profile or a photo of you; you are a number, like No. 4207. After five letters each way, either of you can offer your name, and names are swapped only when both of you choose to. Everyone has a courier: a small bird who hatches from your first words, carries your letters, and gets hungry if you stop writing. ## Facts - Platforms: an iPhone app (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6805318131) and the web (https://kindredly.io). One account works on both when you sign in with Google or email; Sign in with Apple is iPhone-only. - Free: fifteen strangers' letters on your desk a day, five new letters of your own a day, up to five answers to strangers waiting on a reply at once, no limit on the letters inside a correspondence, your courier and every correspondence. - First Class (optional, paid): no cap on new letters, rooms with a kindred that never close (on the free plan a room closes after thirty days without a word; a correspondence before names never does), voice letters (recorded in the iPhone app) and the courier's full wardrobe. Prices are shown before purchase. - Languages: the web runs in English, 中文, Español, Português, Bahasa Indonesia, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, 日本語 and 한국어; the iPhone app in all of them but 中文. A letter on your desk in a language you don't read comes with a translate key. - Safety: 18+ only; an anonymous number instead of a name; no photos until both people trade names; a safety check reads letters on their way to strangers' desks (it stops threats, harassment, sexual content involving minors, and attempts to swap contact details, social handles or money); report or block from any letter or room; when three different people report the same writer, that writer can no longer send letters. - No ads, in the app or on the web. - Kindredly is not a dating app: there are no profiles, no profile pictures and no swiping. - How it differs from Slowly: Slowly matches people by interests and delays delivery by distance; Kindredly matches people by how they write and has no profiles at all. Side by side, with sources: https://kindredly.io/vs/slowly - How it differs from InterPals: InterPals is a free, ad-funded pen pal site where you search member profiles by country, age and language; Kindredly has no profiles and matches by writing.
