Kindredly is built so strangers can be honest without being exposed. You're a number, not a name; nobody sees a photo of you unless you've both chosen to trade names; a safety check reads letters before they go out to strangers' desks; and anyone can be reported or blocked in one tap. It's for adults only, 18 and over.
what a stranger sees of you: a number and a face made of squares.
A number, like No. 4207, and a face made of squares that the app gives you. Not your name, not your photo, not your city, not a profile — there isn't one. They see your letters, and that's all.
The match is made from how you write. Your age nudges the order a little; where you live and what you look like never come into it.
it's 2am and i've just realised i've been holding my breath about something for a month. what are you holding?
Before your courier carries a letter out to strangers' desks, a safety check reads its words. It's lenient on purpose: sad, angry, raw and heavy letters all go through, because that's what people come here to write.
What it stops: threats and targeted harassment, sexual content involving minors, and attempts to move someone off Kindredly — a phone number, an email address, a social handle, a request for money. A letter that doesn't pass comes back to you instead of going out. A voice letter's written line is checked too; the recording itself isn't, so if one asks for something it shouldn't, report it.
loved your letter!! add me on insta, it's @my.real.handle
sad, angry, heavy letters go through. handles, numbers and threats don't.
From the fifth letter each way, either of you can enclose your name. It's revealed only when you both have. Nothing unlocks on its own, and you can stay strangers for as long as you like.
Until both of you sign, there are no photos at all.
both signed. names swapped.
only when you both enclose yours. or never — plenty stay strangers.
Every letter and every conversation has report and block on it.
The writing aura test runs in your browser; nothing you type there is sent to us unless you keep your courier and sign up.
You can delete your account in Settings, and it's immediate. Letters you've already sent stay with the people holding them: to a stranger they stay unsigned, because they never knew who wrote them, and a kindred you traded names with keeps the name you gave them, the way you'd keep a signed letter. Your account, birth date, courier and matches go with it. The details are in our privacy policy.
Keep your full name, address, school and workplace out of your letters, even after you've traded names. If someone pushes for a photo, a number or a meeting before you're ready, you don't owe them an answer — block them.
writing to strangers safely →Yes. You're a number, like No. 4207, until you both decide otherwise. There's no profile and no photo, and names are swapped only when both people enclose theirs, from the fifth letter each way.
No. There are no profile photos. Nobody sees a picture of you unless you've both traded names.
No. Kindredly is for adults, 18 and over.
Your report is saved. When three different people report the same writer, that writer can no longer send letters — that happens automatically, without waiting for anyone.
The person you block can't write to you again. The correspondence you shared closes for both of you, and the two of you won't land on each other's desks.
Only if you tell them. Kindredly never shows your name, photo, location or contact details, and the safety check on letters going out to strangers' desks stops ones that try to swap phone numbers, emails or social handles.
No. There are no profiles, no profile pics and no swiping. You trade letters with strangers who write like you. What it becomes is up to the two of you.
